Stop Anthem Development, BioWare Focuses on Dragon Age and Mass Effect

After more than a year of fixing Anthem, EA and BioWare have decided to stop developing Action RPG games and move on to other projects.

EA and BioWare have their own reasons why they made this decision.

Anthem Development Stopped

In an announcement they wrote today, Producer Executive Christian Dailey said that they were forced to stop the development of this game due to the Covid-19 pandemic. During these times, the team could not work optimally and improve Anthem.

2020 is a year like no other. We also have to make progress for all the projects that are in BioWare. Working from home during the pandemic has an impact on our productivity and that of our entire team. So, we took this decision with careful consideration.

Say Dailey

I know this will disappoint the Anthem community of players who have loved this game. We also of course feel guilty that we can no longer continue its development. For me personally, Anthem is the game that brings BioWare from the most challenging experience.

He continued

Although the development of Anthem was discontinued, the live service of the game will continue in the future. EA and BioWare’s decision certainly makes sense considering that Anthem got a bad response after so many bugs and problems.

After canceling Anthem development, BioWare will focus on Dragon Age as well as Mass Effect

About Anthem Next

A year ago, BioWare revealed that they had commissioned a small team in Austin to substantially redevelop the Anthem version. At that time, work was underway and news of Anthem’s cancellation affected the development of the game.

Since then, the team in charge of Anthem Next has released several user interface which has been redesigned as well as a few other things. According to some, the project is showing pretty good progress.

Currently, the development of Anthem Next is carried out by 30 people. However, in order for their expansion to be carried out properly, they at least need more teams or about three times as much. This news came from one of the BioWare staff who spoke to Bloomberg.

Unfortunately, Anthem’s development had to be canceled to avoid further losses.
