Netflix Rumored to be Working on a New Anime Adaptation of Final Fantasy VII
Although initially better known as a film streaming service provider company, slowly but surely Netflix has proven itself as a quality original film production house covering various genres. We are not only talking about series films, but also anime series which are even adaptations of game media. They are currently busy with lots of new projects, but the latest rumor says that Netflix still has a surprise project, one of which is the anime adaptation of Final Fantasy VII.
Based on leak the first to appear from the forum 4chan, Sqaure Enix is reportedly collaborating with Netflix to produce a new anime series adapting Final Fantasy VII. But because many players are already familiar with the storyline in the game, this anime will tell a different story that is still related to the main plot. So the story portion will be divided into two parts, namely the prequel and the continuation story portion.
In addition to Final Fantasy VII, rumors from the same source say that another popular JRPG franchise from Square Enix, Kingdom Hearts, will also get an anime. The format of the series will be based on CG graphics and will be shorter than the Final Fantasy VII anime, but the story will be more complex and will combine elements from the Kingdom Hearts Union X, Birth By Sleep, and Kingdom Hearts 3 series.
It should be noted that all of this is still just a rumor, but at the same time we wouldn’t be surprised if this project actually happened. Apart from the fact that Netflix is indeed increasingly active in concocting original series that include popular game franchises, Square Enix may deliberately use this project as a form of promotion for Final Fantasy VII which will later get a new sequel.
For the time being, what is clear is that we can only be patient waiting for further news or official confirmation in the future.
