Trails of Cold Steel 3 Get Mobile Version So Free Game!

The rise in popularity of Trails of Cold Steel as a JRPG series that has received quite a lot of fans in the last decade has encouraged Nihon Falcom to new success. Apart from preparing Kuro no Kiseki which is clearly the most ambitious Trails game so far, they have also been involved in a series of ported projects from the previous Trails games to reach more platforms. Surprisingly, recently there was even an announcement that Trails of Cold Steel 3 will be released on the mobile platform.

This mobile release is not a direct port, but a new version specially developed to be suitable as a mobile game. This includes turning it into a free-to-play game with additional microtransactions, character gachas, and different gameplay structures.

From the appearance of several promotional screenshots, this game still carries the quality of graphics and character models that are not much different from the original version. It also includes turn-based gameplay which looks the same, but is likely made simpler. There is also a menu that shows the character’s stats, skills and rarity status which does look like most RPG mobile games on the market.

It must be admitted that making Trails of Cold Steel 3 into a mobile game is indeed a pretty strange decision. The reason is because every game in this series is formulated with a storyline that is related to one another. Newcomers will certainly find it difficult or awkward when trying to follow the storyline, but we also don’t know how the structure will be designed in this mobile version.

Regarding the release schedule, Trails of Cold Steel 3 Online is planned to be available on Android and iOS in August 2021. Please note that this release is only for China, Taiwan and Macau.
