[Unboxing] NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… Lunar Tear Edition, Is It Worth Buying?

A high sense of enthusiasm for a game can sometimes make anyone immediately complacent to spend big money to get the dream game in the best version. Yes, at least this is how we feel for NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… which happened to be released today in the Asian region. The original Nier series is one of the best PS3 games that still leaves a strong impression on us, that’s why last year when Square Enix announced the Collector’s Edition bundle called White Snow Edition we were immediately attracted to get it. In the end we failed to get a slot, but fortunately there are several retailers who provide pre-order access for the Lunar Tear Edition.

Overall the content of this edition is still the same as the White Snow Edition, minus the omission of the Script Set of seven small books containing dialogue scripts for each main character. Even though it’s quite unfortunate, at least the main content we’re after is still there, namely the Special Soundtrack from the edited version and the new arrangement.

The order we’ve been waiting for has finally arrived and we decided to reveal it in GamerWK’s first unboxing article. Instead of lingering, here is a detailed summary of each content.

Outer Box

The Lunar Tear Edition is packaged in a plain white box with a White Moonflower motif that feels strongly attached to the Nier series itself. Every piece of content is well packaged even though the box is quite thin so it gets dented easily. It also includes a sleeve with special artwork by Akihiko Yoshida also made from a thin box. This box can be a suitable display/display to be paired with your game collection, but also make sure to store it properly, or if you order this edition make sure the seller prepares safe packaging.

Game Physical Version + Steel Case

The Lunar Tear Edition that we got this time is specifically for the PlayStation 4 version of Nier Replicant which comes with BD and an additional Steel Case which can also be found on the Xbox One version. The standard version of the game includes a bonus Day One Content Pack which offers content in the form of Dynamic Themes, Avatar Sets, and Mini Soundtracks. The reedem code is only valid until May 31, 2021, so make sure to claim the free content right away before you forget it.

The addition of the Steel Case game shows the artwork of the young protagonist created by artist Kazuma Koda. While on the back there is a NieR Replicant logo with a white background and a reflected White Moonflower motif. The inside of the steel case is also covered with artwork from a snowy city in the prologue which, although it looks charming, but in this steel case the artwork looks too dark and less obvious.

Grimoire Pin Set

The next content is the Grimoire Pin Set which is packaged in a city container with a fairly solid box material and has a premium feel. In the box there are three pins which are replicas of Grimoire Weiss, Grimoire Rubrum, and Grimoire Noir which are all made of solid metal. All of these pins are full thickness with no empty space that makes them feel heavy, so we think the pins are more suitable for display than attaching to clothes.

Soundtrack CD Set

Well, this is the content that made us finally fall asleep to secure the Lunar Tear Edition and end up very satisfied. Soundtrack CD Set in the form of a replica of Grimoire Weiss is made with very good quality. Contrary to our expectations, it turns out that the packaging is made of hard cover instead of metal, which doesn’t really matter because the quality is still pretty solid. Once opened, you will find 2 Soundtrack CDs for Another Edit Version and Lunar Tear Edition Arrangement, each filled with 10 music tracks composed by Keiichi Okabe.

There is also an addition such as a thin book slip that summarizes information ranging from the name of the soundtrack and credits for the music accompaniment staff who worked on it. One part that caught our attention the most was the hilarious discussion session between Yoko Taro and Okabe about how they finally got the idea to make this Soundtrack CD Set.

Is It Worth Buying?

Not infrequently there is a feeling of regret to buy goods at high prices, but for NieR Replicant ver.1.22474487139… Lunar Tear Edition fortunately we are really satisfied. This edition features all the content you deserve, especially from the Soundtrack CD Set which is exclusively made for this edition. With a market price of around IDR 2 million, we think this is indeed a decent edition, especially if you are a Nier fan and happen to have enough money to buy it.

But one thing to note is that this edition doesn’t come with a Script Set from the White Snow Edition, and there’s also no additional action figures like the Collector’s Edition of most games on the market. If you are curious about the quality of the game, we happen to have compiled a full review that you can see HERE.
