How Can Shibuya Be Empty? Alice in Wonderland's Biggest Question Finally Answered!
As a streaming service that is very popular among movie lovers, Netflix has always been in the spotlight for how consistent they are in making their own original series. Although there are some that end up getting bad receptions such as Bird Box and Death Note, but not a few of their original works that offer quality viewing.
One of them is Alice in Borderland. The film series, which adapts the manga by Haro Aso, is a very uplifting thriller. Apart from the thrilling storyline, the setting of Tokyo’s dead city which is depicted without any signs of life is also presented very realistically.
The element of realism also raises big questions from fans who have watched the film. Like how they can make the city to the streets of Shibuya which is always busy become quiet like a dead city. In order to answer this question, Netflix has released the video “Making of Alice in Borderland” which shows the process of making the film.
The secret behind the city setting to the deserted streets of Shibuya is the effect of the modified CG visuals. So the production team made a fairly large replica of the Shibuya street and covered it with Green Screen. After that they combined it with visuals from the deserted streets of Shibuya and modified it in such a way to make it look real. They also add a lot of touch effects throughout the film that make the Alice in Borderland adaptation on par with a blockbuster film.
Alice in Borderland itself is available on Netflix in an 8-episode format for its first season. This series is also confirmed to have a continuation of Season 2, which is currently in the production stage and is predicted to be released in 2021.
