Prepare the Last Update, Popular AR Game 'Minecraft Earth' Will Be Closed Permanently

It is undeniable that Minecraft is one of the most successful games with the largest player base of all time. In addition to recording the highest sales figures compared to any game, its community base is also never empty of gamers who cover many circles. Mojang as a developer also takes advantage of the high popularity of its franchise by expanding.

Minecraft Earth is arguably one of the most successful spin-off games since its release in 2019. Recording a massive number of active players and having been downloaded 5 million times on the Google Play Store alone, this game also gets a reception from fans and critics who have played it. In short, Minecraft Earth has the potential to evolve into an even bigger AR (Augmented Reality) game.

Unfortunately, this ambition had to be dashed after Mojang announced that they would close the game on June 30. This announcement was made through a post on their official Twitter account and blog post latest.

The development team also revealed that they will be releasing a final update for the game that will bring some new content. Some of these include the addition of a Super Season, new Character Creator items, reduced crafting and smelting time, and the addition of new mobs.

The reason for the closure itself was not due to the reduced number of players or loss of interest in the game, but the COVID-19 pandemic. Since Minecraft Earth is an AR game that requires players to be active outside the home, this of course makes the game very unsuitable for the pandemic conditions that require people to protect themselves indoors.

The good news is that players who have already spent their money on Mnecraft Earth will be compensated. The compensation itself is in the form of a free Minecraft game (Bedrock version), as well as Minecoins currency that can be used on the Minecraft Marketplace. So in addition to being able to start new adventures in Minecraft, players will also be able to buy some cool content from the Marketplace for free.

Interested in the Game?

So like the information above, Minecraft Earth is planned to be permanently closed on June 30. But for those of you who might be interested in tasting the game, Minecraft Earth can still be downloaded for free at Google Play Store and App Store.
