Control Developer: Making Games for Two Generations of Consoles Sucks

In fact, making games for those two generations of consoles sucks. This was conveyed directly by Remedy Entertainment, the developer of the Control game. Furthermore, Thomas Puha as Communications Director of Remedy said that developing games for two different console generations was very, very difficult.

There’s a Reason Why Developer Control Says This

Through the On Next-Gen Console Watch event, Puha described the struggles experienced by developers to bring games from one generation to another. This becomes even more difficult when the studio is very small with fewer resources, like Remedy Entertainment.

Whenever you guys are at this cross-generational point, frankly it sucks. We have to support the previous generation and make sure that the game is also compatible for the next generation. It’s not very realistic that we have to build the game from scratch.

Say Puha

Puha continued that this is why the current PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series games don’t look as good or better than previous generations.

The game that will be released later does not have stunning visuals like the previous series. You can see this in Modern Warfare. I thought “why does this game look so good on Xbox One and PS4 but look so bad on PS5 and Xbox Series X?

Puha continued

He mentioned that there were many problems in developing games for consoles next-gen. All this can not be separated from the resources and tools that are less supportive. So it’s no wonder why Puha finds developing games for two different generations of consoles to be a real pain in the ass.

Puha said that Control was originally made for consoles current-gen last August 2019. However, engine they had to change it so they could release the game on the console next-gen and of course make the to-do list grow.

When you get to the point where you have to run [permainan] on next-generation systems, it took us a few months to get the game running.

Of course, it’s quite interesting how Puha’s words regarding game development for next-gen console.
